The Book of Malachi serves as a diagnostic guide, highlighting why blessings might seem absent in our lives. This ancient scripture offers a glimpse into God’s desire for His people to acknowledge their missteps and find their way back. The Israelites, often unaware of their transgressions, focused on insignificant matters, overlooking what mattered most to God. Doubting God's love due to their challenges, they questioned His intentions. Through Malachi, God’s response was clear: compared to those He had not chosen, the Israelites were still better off. He pointed out their ingratitude, as they sacrificed poor-quality animals, showing disrespect and dishonor. Their sacrifices, symbolizing their relationship with God, lacked sincerity and love. Moreover, while they hesitated to give their finest to God, they would readily do so for earthly leaders, revealing their true priorities.

God also addressed the Levites, those entrusted with teaching and guiding the community. The Levites, encompassing roles from teachers to accountants, were expected to be the intellectual and spiritual pillars of society. However, instead of preserving and disseminating God's teachings accurately, they misled the people. Their actions were not in line with God's purpose for them, leading the community astray. They failed to act as righteous judges and curators of trust. Such spiritual and moral degradation, paired with the people's faithlessness in relationships and marriage, painted a picture of a society far removed from God's commands.

Yet, Malachi’s message wasn't all reprimand. He offered a ray of hope, emphasizing God’s unchanging nature and unwavering commitment to His people. The key to returning to God's grace lay in recognizing their faults. Central to their errors was their failure to give tithes and offerings rightfully. By not dedicating their best to God, they were, metaphorically, robbing Him. Malachi’s call was clear: recognizing and rectifying these lapses could usher in the abundant blessings God always intended for them. It was a call for both individual and collective transformation, a roadmap to prosperity and righteousness, not just for the individual, but for the entire nation.

Culture

The Sermon on the Mount, particularly the Beatitudes, offers not just isolated proclamations but milestones on a roadmap of spiritual growth. As people progress through this journey, they encounter various stages of spiritual development, from acknowledging their spiritual poverty to mourning over their imperfections, developing meekness, craving righteousness, showing mercy, and ultimately achieving a pure heart. But, it's not a journey without challenges. With the recognition of the followers as children of God comes persecution, symbolizing their undeniable association with the divine Kingdom. This process underscores the importance of genuine spiritual evolution: shortcuts lead to emptiness, and every step, no matter how challenging, is essential for authentic spiritual maturity.

Jesus’s teachings emphasize the power and significance of unity — a force that stands in stark contrast to the divisiveness and individualism celebrated by society. The essence of unity transcends just shared thought; it is a testament to shared values, mutual support, and a shared commitment to economic solidarity. In the modern world, where individualism reigns, the Beatitudes' call for unity, especially economic unity driven by love, is a revolutionary shift. As believers move forward in their spiritual journey, the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount guide them, emphasizing the importance of fostering healthy relationships rooted in these shared values.

The Roadmap of the Beatitudes: Unity as the Cornerstone

Protocols exist across various fields to set standards and, when followed, optimize operations and maximize benefits. Think of the internet’s TCP/IP, which allows different devices to communicate with each other. Similarly, the Mosaic Law or the teachings of Jesus can be viewed as protocols. When adhered to, they enhance our lives, relationships, and commerce. These protocols create culture, and culture creates the economy.

Many assume governments are the primary architects of economies, but they only set protocols or laws that influence cultural beliefs. While governments do influence economies through currency creation and manipulation, they don't have direct control. For instance, despite government regulations, black markets with their own distinct cultures and economies still thrive. Changing government regulations, like tax adjustments, can have unintended economic consequences. Historically, religious protocols, not governmental laws, have been the major force behind cultural and economic formations.

Economic prosperity isn't just a result of fiscal strategies or state policies but is deeply rooted in cultural beliefs. Societies emphasizing communal benefit over individual gain often witness superior economic outcomes. Today's societies are frequently ensnared by a system promoting self-benefit, causing subpar results. However, teachings from scriptures prioritizing love, mutual benefit, and unity can introduce transformative shifts in economies and cultures, presenting a refreshing take on finance. The Sweet Economy movement, inspired by these teachings, aims to usher in a new era of decentralized, relationship-focused commerce that can significantly transform society. 

Unity isn't about uniformity in thought or action. Real unity manifests when economic value is shared, promoting mutual interests, which accelerates economic growth. True economic unity doesn't mean relinquishing all assets but understanding and applying principles from Leviticus 25, which sheds light on value that is restorative and guaranteed.
